Lake Superior College to Hold Spring Commencement on Monday, May 20
Lake Superior College will host this year’s commencement ceremony at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC) on Monday, May 20. Over 830 degrees, diplomas, and certificates will be awarded to the class of 2019.

A pinning ceremony for graduates of the Lake Superior College Nursing Program will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Harborside Ballroom. Family and friends are invited to attend.

Commencement is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in the DECC Symphony Hall.

Commencement speakers include Minnesota State Trustee and former legislator Roger Moe who will represent the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, Student Senate President Keeley Zirkler, and Brian Forcier of Titanium Partners.

Minnesota State Trustee Roger Moe, of Erskine, is the current president of National Strategies, Inc. He previously served 32 years in the Minnesota Legislature, including 22 years as Senate Majority Leader. His legislative accomplishments include the creation of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership, the Midwest Higher Education Commission, and the Environmental Trust Fund. He also served as the Vice President of Coleman/Christison, Inc., and a mathematics teacher and coach at Ada High School. Moe earned his B.S. from Mayville State University and an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from the University of Minnesota for his years of public service. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees by Governor Dayton in December of 2016. His term ends on June 30, 2020.

Student Senate President Keeley Zirkler already received her Associate of Arts degree from Lake Superior College, earning academic high honors with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. She is a member of Lake Superior College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society and serves as vice president of research. Zirkler was recognized with a Student Honors Award as Club Officer of the Year for starting the Meditation Club and leading weekly sessions on campus. She is planning a career in neuroscience and took additional prerequisite classes at LSC this past year, while serving as Student Senate President. She plans on transferring to the University of Minnesota this fall.

Brian Forcier is an alumnus of Lake Superior College and is the President of Titanium Partners, a commercial real estate and finance development organization with more than 300 successful projects worth over $800 million dollars. Titanium Partners is currently working on building one of the largest apartment complexes in Duluth’s history. The Lakeview Tower, downtown Duluth, will be a $75 million investment resulting in a fifteen story apartment building with over 200 units of much needed apartments in our community. In addition, Titanium Partners is also working with Lake Superior College and the City of Duluth to building an apartment complex near the main campus of LSC. Brian has also been heavily involved in the Duluth community including serving on the board of directors for the Duluth Chamber of Commerce, Greater Downtown Council, Udac and Damiano Center.

Brian earned his A.A. at LSC before transferring to the College of St. Scholastica to earn his B.A. in Finance and went on to earn a master’s degree in Real Estate/CCIM from DePaul University in Chicago. Because of his positive experience at LSC, Brian and his wife Monique have sent three of their sons to Lake Superior College as well. Blake Forcier graduated from
LSC, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and finished his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Cole Forcier graduated from LSC and works in the family business, Titanium Partners. And, Dillon Forcier, currently graduating from LSC, also works at Titanium Partners and will attend Hamline University this fall.
