LSC Scholarship Students Honored
The Lake Superior College Foundation (LSCF) held its Fall Scholarship Breakfast Reception Thursday morning in Hawks Landing to showcase LSC students who received a foundation scholarship this semester.
The Lake Superior College Foundation (LSCF) awards tens of thousands of dollars each semester to students. This primary function of the LSCF includes matching donors to scholarship options, investing endowed gifts prudently, and administering scholarship agreements so that qualified are awarded scholarships.
For the Fall Semester, 139 students received scholarships totaling over $250,000. About half of this amount was for the Workforce Development Scholarships from the state of Minnesota for high-demand occupations in the trades and healthcare industry. This fall a record 79% of completed applicants earned at least one scholarship with 28 students receiving multiple scholarships.
This year's scholarship student speakers were Karen Myers, a 63-year-old student who promised her mother she would finish college someday; and Jennifer Godwin, an international student from Nigeria with dreams of finishing her nursing degree to make her family back home proud.
“Our kind and thoughtful donors truly boost LSC students along their educational journey, "said David Kline, vice president of advancement and external relations. "Students rely on grants, loans, and scholarships to offset the costs of earning a credential that can be life changing for them and their families."
The mission of the Lake Superior College Foundation is to support Lake Superior College by cultivating community relationships and philanthropic support that will advance educational opportunities for students, staff, and community.
