Lake Superior College’s Semester Kickoff Events Help Students Prepare for Fall Semester

(Duluth, Minn.) – New and returning students at Lake Superior College will have a few opportunities to get a head start on preparing for fall semester at the upcoming 2021 Fall Semester Kickoff events. Traditionally, this has been a one-day event, typically on the Saturday before the semester begins, but this year a few dates and times are being offered to make it easier for students (and parents/other guests) to safely visit campus in advance of the new semester.

Fall semester begins at Lake Superior College on Monday, August 23. Kickoff events will be held on the following dates:

  • Friday, August 13, 2021: 2 – 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 19, 2021: 4 – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 21, 2021: 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

At these events, students can take care of several tasks while on campus including purchasing books and supplies at the LSC Store, finding their classrooms and other areas before the semester begins, making a tuition payment, getting their student IDs, meeting with an advisor to add or drop a class, and in some cases even meeting their instructors and classmates before their courses begin. This often helps alleviate the stress of trying to do all of this on the first day of class.

“We encourage new students to visit us during this Kickoff event if they have any questions, concerns or just want find their way around campus before that first day of fall semester," said LSC Registrar Melissa Leno. "It’s often helpful to know where your classrooms and other key areas are before the semester begins so you can attend your first day and not have to worry about that sort of thing. We will have staff and volunteers safely spread out throughout campus to help assist students with whatever they need to do before school begins. The LSC Store will be open as well so you can purchase books and IceHawk apparel.”

Lake Superior College is also offering a completely online Fall Semester Kickoff – Virtual Drop-In Series as well. If students have quick questions or need quick, easy answers, they can drop in for a virtual session on either of the following dates:

  • Wednesday, August 11, 2021: 5 – 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 17, 2021: 12 – 2 p.m.

In addition to the events happening on main campus and virtually, Kickoff events will be taking place at LSC’s other campus locations as well, all on Saturday, August 21, at these times:

Center for Advanced Aviation 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Center for Advanced Aviation will be open for pilot and aviation maintenance students. 4960 Airport Road, Hangar 103

Downtown Center: 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The Downtown Center will be open for integrated manufacturing students enrolled in computer aided design, machine tool careers and welding. 120 N 2nd Ave. W.

Emergency Response Training Center: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Emergency Response Training Center will be open for firefighting students. 11501 Highway 23.

New and returning students are welcome to attend any of the dates or times listed, and no registration is required. Masks/face coverings are currently required at all LSC campus locations (as of today, Wednesday, August 4) and all fall courses are being delivered safely on campus as planned.

For new students, there is still time to apply and register for fall semester. While some programs are already full, there are still openings in several programs and students can add/drop classes until the 5th day of the semester. Lake Superior College has waived the usual application fee so prospective students can apply for free at www.lsc.edu/apply. LSC also continues to offer scheduled on-campus tours.
