Lake Superior College’s Semester Kickoff Events Help Students Prepare for Fall Semester 2022

New and returning students at Lake Superior College will have a few opportunities to get a head start on preparing for fall semester at the upcoming 2022 Fall Semester Kickoff events. Fall semester begins at Lake Superior College on Monday, August 22. Kickoff events will be held on LSC’s main campus on the the following dates:

  • Friday, August 12, 2022, 2 - 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 18, 2022, 4 - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 20, 2022, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

At these events, students can take care of several tasks while on campus including purchasing books and supplies at the LSC Store, finding their classrooms and other areas before the semester begins, making a tuition payment, getting their student IDs, meeting with an advisor to add or drop a class, and in some cases even meeting their instructors and classmates before their courses begin. This often helps alleviate the stress of trying to do all of this on the first day of class.

“We encourage new students to visit us during these Kickoff events if they have any questions, concerns or just want find their way around campus before that first day of fall semester," said LSC Registrar Melissa Leno. "It’s often helpful to know where your classrooms and other key areas are before the semester begins so you can attend your first day and not have to worry about that sort of thing. We will have staff and volunteers spread out throughout campus happy to help assist students with whatever they need to do before school begins. The LSC Store will be open as well so you can purchase books and IceHawk apparel.”

In addition to these events happening on main campus, Kickoff events will also take place at LSC’s other campus locations, all on Saturday, August 20, at these times:

  • Center for Advanced Aviation: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The Center for Advanced Aviation will be open for pilot and/or aviation maintenance students.
4960 Airport Road, Hangar 103, Duluth, MN 55811
  • Downtown Center: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The Downtown Center will be open for integrated manufacturing students enrolled in computer aided design, machine tool careers and/or welding.
    120 N 2nd Ave. W., Duluth, MN 55802
  • Emergency Response Training Center: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The Emergency Response Training Center will be open for firefighting students.
    11501 Highway 23, Duluth, MN 55808

New and returning students are welcome to attend any of the dates or times listed, and no registration is required. These Kickoff events are optional. If you are unable to attend, you can stop by the main campus during regular business hours to take care of any of these items before the start of the semester.

For prospective new students, there is still time to apply and register for fall semester. While some programs are already full, there are still openings in other programs and students can add/drop classes until the 5th day of the semester. Lake Superior College has waived the application fee so prospective students can apply for free to LSC at lsc.edu/apply. LSC also continues to offer on-campus tours, which can be scheduled at lsc.edu/visit. New student enrollment is already currently up about 2% compared to last year, with a few more weeks to register. New student applications are currently up about 6% and Lake Superior College is experiencing a record high number of tours this summer, as more students who took time off during the pandemic are seeking to return to school and more students from outside the immediate area are showing increased interest in coming to LSC, and Duluth, for schooling and related career opportunities.
