How to Apply to Practical Nursing Program

The LSC nursing admissions process is competitive. It’s a separate process from becoming an LSC student. All nursing program applicants who complete minimum admission requirements by the application deadline will be considered for admission to the nursing program. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.

Before applying to the LSC nursing program, complete the following steps:

Choose a Start Date:

To become a licensed practical nurse (LPN), apply to the 40-credit practical nursing program. Practical Nursing Diploma starts fall semester.

Before you begin the LSC nursing application, apply and become an LSC student, if you have not already done so.

Important

Important:You must declare your academic program of interest to apply to a nursing program. You can do this when you apply to LSC or by meeting with an advisor. Choose:

  • Practical Nursing (to become an LPN)

Complete pre-program courses and requirements

Complete all “pre-program” requirements / courses specified in your program guide.

Review pre-program requirements in the program guide including:

  • English
  • Reading
  • Math
  • Pre-program courses
  • GPA requirements

NOTE: If you attended college somewhere else (including the military), you may be able to transfer credits that meet your pre-program course requirements.

Register for the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam

A passing overall score of 58.6% on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam is required for program acceptance. This exam proctored remotely ATI Testing, a third-party online testing platform. 

Prospective nursing students must register directly with ATI to take this exam and comply with ATI’s test taking requirements and provide official TEAS results to LSC for application consideration.

Apply to this Program Now

After you’ve completed Step 1, apply to the LSC nursing program.

The Application Window for Fall 2026 program start is January 30, 2026 - August 7, 2026.

Applications will be reviewed for Fall 2026 program start on the following dates:

  • March 15, 2026
  • May 22, 2026
  • August 7, 2026 – if seats remain

EARLY ACCEPTANCE: Students who have completed all pre-program courses and the TEAS entrance exam are encouraged to apply. Applicants who have met all admission criteria by the first review date will receive early acceptance.

NOTIFICATION OF PROGRAM STANDING: Students will be notified of their acceptance into the Practical Nursing program within 2 weeks of each scheduled review date as listed above. This 2-week timeframe is necessary to complete a thorough application review. Please refrain from inquiring about the status of your application until our internal application review has been completed.

You can expect to receive notification from LSC’s nursing department within the notification time frame stated in the application procedure.

Accepted

Accepted students MUST complete the required next steps by the deadline

Accepted nursing students will receive an acceptance letter to your preferred email address on file. You must complete forms and return to us as directed in the acceptance letter to secure your seat in the program.

Not Accepted

If you were NOT accepted, you can reapply during a future application period.

You must complete the entire nursing application process again. You do not have to apply to Lake Superior College again.

If you were chosen to participate in the nursing program, complete the following tasks by the due date shown in your acceptance letter. You must complete these tasks by the due date to be guaranteed a seat in the nursing program.

Complete Minnesota Department of Human Services and Federal background study. Details are listed with the acceptance letter.

  2. Complete needed immunizations and tuberculosis screening

CPR / first aid certification

CPR / first aid certification

Submit a copy of your current CPR/first aid certification for Healthcare Providers. Please refer to the nursing admission policy for appropriate options.

Email your acceptance to the contact listed in the acceptance letter.

Register for classes

Register for classes

Your program director or administrative assistant will send you the courses to register. Please register for the specific courses you have been directed.
