President Message for June 12, 2026
As we enter the month of June, we take time to reflect on Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19. This day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and Black culture.
Juneteenth is both a moment of remembrance and a call to continued action. It invites us—as individuals and as an organization—to deepen our understanding of history while reaffirming our commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive community.
Connecting Juneteenth to Our Equity 2030 Commitment
Our work under Equity 2030 is rooted in the belief that equitable access, opportunity, and outcomes are essential for strong communities and thriving organizations. Juneteenth provides an important opportunity to reflect on how this commitment shows up in our everyday work.
Each of us contributes by:
- Creating environments where all voices are heard and valued
- Advancing inclusive and equitable practices in how we serve our communities
- Continuing to learn about systemic inequities and their impact today
- Implementing universal design in our academic and co-curricular programming
Honoring Juneteenth means not only acknowledging history—but also actively contributing to a future aligned with the goals of Equity 2030, where opportunity and belonging are shared by all.
