Free Summer Camps at Lake Superior College Next Week
LSC will offer eight camps from June 8-11.

Lake Superior College (LSC) will welcome campers to its campuses beginning on Monday, June 8 for its week-long free summer camps, introducing students ages 11-18 to potential careers.

LSC will hold eight camps including SCRUBS, Machine Tool, Computer, Aviation, Video Production, Welding, SolidWorks and the Generation Justice (GenJ) Institute. Thanks to private business and industry partner donations for sponsoring these free camps.

The GenJ Institute (June 8-11) was awarded a grant funded by the Wirtanen Family Fund of Boreal Waters Community Foundation. The Generation Justice Institute will provide a collaborative space for middle and high school students to explore social issues, analyze their causes, and brainstorm solutions.

The Aviation Camp (June 9-10) offers students a unique opportunity for hands-on exploration of the aviation careers as both a Pilot and an Aircraft Mechanic. It includes interactive simulation activities and tours of local aviation facilities

The Computer Camp (June 8-11) focuses on computer programming, computer hardware, operating systems, and cybersecurity. Goals include students learning safe practices for online behaviors and increasing knowledge of computer programming and cybersecurity careers.

The Machine Tool Camp (June 8-10) offers participants the chance to explore cutting-edge tools and technology used in the machining industry. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on learning, campers will gain real-world experience with tools like lathes, mills, CNC machines, and other essential equipment.

The SCRUBS Camp (June 8-11) offers hands-on, engaging healthcare-related experiences for students, and an overview of exciting careers available in the healthcare field. Students will enjoy hands-on simulation, tour area medical facilities and is intended for students who are interested in healthcare careers.

The SolidWorks Camp (June 8-10) is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology. Participants will learn fundamental skills in sketching, utilizing revolved features, assembly tools, and dimensioning techniques. This camp provides an exciting introduction to the design industry, focusing on problem-solving strategies while working collaboratively in a team setting.

The Video Production Camp (June 8-11) will explore careers and interest in camera work and video production in a hands-on experience planning, shooting, and editing their own video projects. Students will also tour a local broadcast station to see the behind-the-scenes operations of local news.

The Welding Camp (June 8-10) will offer participants an opportunity to learn about the welding industry through hands-on activities and assembling prepared fabrication kits. Campers will learn about the tools and techniques used within the manufacturing industries. Students will also tour local facilities and see different types of manufacturing in our local community.

Seven of the eight camps will take place at Lake Superior College’s Main Campus on Trinity Road. The Aviation Camp will take place at LSC's Center for Advanced Aviation by the Duluth International Airport.
