Dr. Jamal Adam Hired As Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at LSC

Dr. Jamal Adam has been hired as the interim dean of liberal arts and sciences at Lake Superior College. He will provide strategic direction and leadership for the associate of arts and associate of fine arts degree programs, programs for university transfer and for the online ELearning courses and degree programs. As a member of a campus-wide team, Dr. Adam will work to provide an innovative climate for student success, economic development and other educational and training needs of the community.

“My role as dean is to support our students’ learning outcomes at LSC which include the knowledge, skills and responsibilities needed to do well in the world,” said Adam. “One-third of our students go on to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher and many of our students earn certificates and diplomas. It’s important to help them transition on to more education or to enter or return to the work world and be successful.”

Prior to LSC, Adam served as Counseling Department coordinator, faculty member, and counselor at Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) for nine years. He also served as the MCTC program director for multicultural student support activities for six years. Adam also taught global studies for the College of Education at University of Minnesota Duluth.

A two-year college alumnus, Adam earned his associate of arts degree from Minneapolis Community and Technical College, followed by a bachelor of science degree in social science and psychology from Metropolitan State University, a master of arts in counseling and psychological services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in educational administration and policy from University of Minnesota.

Adam has been extensively involved in campus leadership roles, including service on the Faculty Shared Governance Council, Equity and Inclusion Committee, Behavioral Intervention Team, and Retention Leadership Committee, as well as a Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Scholar.
