President Message for June 30, 2026 - A Year of Momentum, A Future of Possibility
As we welcome July, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on my first year serving as president of Lake Superior College, one of the most remarkable community and technical colleges I’ve worked at. What stands out most is not just what we have accomplished, but how we have done it—together, with purpose, resilience, and a shared belief in the transformative power of education.
This past year has been one of vision and momentum. As a community of learners, educators, and leaders, we committed ourselves to strengthening our foundation while boldly preparing for the future. The completion of our updated strategic plan is a powerful example of that commitment. It reflects your voices, your aspirations, and our collective determination to ensure that this institution continues to thrive and serve with impact.
At the same time, we have worked to align, refine, and update our Strategic Enrollment Management plan and soon will work on our Master Academic Plan, two organizational plans that create the foundation of the institution, ensuring that our day-to-day work is grounded in that shared vision. These efforts are already helping us move forward with greater clarity, focus, and unity of purpose. As these are completed other organizational plans will be developed in alignment with our Strategic Plan, the Minnesota State Strategic Pillars, and ultimately to Minnesota State Equity 2030 Goals.
One of the most inspiring aspects of this year has been the continued evolution of the LIFE@LSC program. This inclusive higher education programming work embodies who we are at our best—expanding opportunities, opening doors, and supporting every student’s journey toward success and belonging.
We have also made meaningful progress in advancing competency-based education through dialogue and learning. Several of our faculty, staff, and myself are participating in the CompetentU program, a robust training opportunity that will help us build and implement rigorous programming while understanding the impact on students, faculty, staff, and resources. This work reaffirms the College commitment to innovation and to meeting students where they are. This approach is not just about new models—it is about reimagining how we recognize learning, honor experience, and empower achievement.
Equally important has been our deep dive into process mapping, where we have taken a thoughtful look at how we work and how we can work better. This has required openness, collaboration, and a willingness to rethink long-standing practices. Because of that effort, we are now positioned to implement meaningful structural changes in the coming year—changes that will better support our mission, our students, and each other.
Taken together, this work tells a powerful story: we are a college that is not standing still. We are evolving, listening, learning, and leading.
As we look ahead, I am filled with optimism. The work we have done this year has laid a strong and inspiring foundation—and the next chapter will be about bringing that vision to life in even more visible and impactful ways.
Thank you for your commitment, your patience, your creativity, and your belief in what we can achieve together. It is an honor to serve alongside you as we continue shaping a future full of possibility.
