Sherry Sanchez Tibbetts Named LSC Interim Director of Admissions

Sherry Sanchez Tibbetts has been appointed as Lake Superior College’s interim Director of Admissions. In this capacity, she will plan, direct, and evaluate recruitment and admissions initiatives and work closely with the broader community to convey LSC’s distinctive approach to education access and service

“I’m very excited to continue to build on the strengths developed over the past few years at LSC,” said Sanchez Tibbetts. “The programs offered by the College can be life-changing for our students.”

Sanchez Tibbetts has more than 12 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit and higher education institutions. Prior to joining LSC, she served as the Director of External and Strategic Initiatives at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, where she was the national chairwoman for the 2016 American Indian Higher Education Consortium Student Conference Planning Committee. More recently, she directed a complex grant portfolio for the Conservation Corps Minnesota and Iowa, where she helped develop a $2.5 million-dollar green job training certification program for young adults.

In addition, Sanchez Tibbetts has served as a consultant to the US Department of Justice, assisting grantees build cultural competency, and to the State of Minnesota, developing engagement strategies for Native Americans. Her volunteer experience includes serving on the board of directors for the United Way of Carlton and Pine Counties and the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women. She has provided expert testimony to the US Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and was appointed to the Civic Engagement Committee of the Governor’s Taskforce on Diversity and Inclusion in 2015.

Sanchez Tibbetts earned a bachelor’s degree in history and government from the University of Texas at Austin, and a JD from St. Mary’s University School of Law, San Antonio, Texas.
