A few spots are left for people who are interested in taking LSC’s online Grandma’s Marathon class. Lake Superior College is again offering the chance to train for and run Grandma’s Marathon or the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon for college credit while working with a world-class athlete. The course begins on Feb. 26 and ends on May 25, 2018.

Native Duluthian and elite runner Katie McGee will again teach the online physical education course. She is a champion runner, a three-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, and an accomplished coach who has been competing as a national class road racer for nearly twenty years.

The two-credit, twelve-week course provides race training and nutritional information in addition to history, etiquette and basic skills. Race registration fees are included in the class tuition.

The 42nd Grandma’s Marathon Weekend is June 15-16, 2018. The organization’s signature race, Grandma’s Marathon, is the 11th largest marathon in the U.S. Grandma’s Marathon began in 1977 when a group of local runners planned a scenic road race from Two Harbors to Duluth, Minnesota. Established in 1986, Grandma’s Marathon- Duluth Inc. is now a self-governed nonprofit organization with a 17-member board of directors and a nine-person staff. Race weekend generates more than $10 million in economic impact for the region annually.
