LSC’s May 16 Commencement at the DECC

Lake Superior College will recognize this year’s graduating class at commencement exercises at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC) on Monday, May 16. More than 850 degrees, diplomas, and certificates will be awarded to the class of 2016.

Graduation is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in the DECC Symphony Hall. A reception will be held for students, friends, and families at 5 p.m. in the DECC lobby.

A pinning ceremony for graduates of the LSC Nursing Program will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Horizon Ballroom. Family and friends are invited to attend. A total of 83 nursing students will receive this special award, including 28 students to receive a Practical Nursing Diploma;16 students to receive an Advance Standing LPN Track, AAS degree; 39 students to receive a Professional Nursing AAS degree.

Student speakers include Student Senate President Kasey Wilson and Student Senator Sam Moscatelli who are both graduating with Associate of Arts degrees.

Jasmin Farmakes will serve as the alumni guest speaker. Farmakes graduated from Lake Superior College in May of 2013 with an Associate of Arts degree. While attending school, she worked at both LSC’s Harold P. Erickson Library and the University of Wisconsin-Superior Jim Dan Hill Library. She also tutored students in math and science in the Upward Bound program. Farmakes graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior as a Swenson Scholar and McNair Scholar in May 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Chemistry. In August 2016, she will be attending North Dakota State University to pursue a doctorate in Analytical Chemistry.
