LSC Foundation to Award over $100,000 in Student Scholarships for 2019

The Lake Superior College Foundation will award over $100,000 in student scholarships this spring semester, which will be applied to student accounts this upcoming fall semester.

The annual LSC Foundation scholarship application window opens today, Friday, February 15, and will remain open until Friday, March 8. Current and prospective LSC students are encouraged to apply by visiting www.lsc.edu/foundation. The application process is entirely online, using AwardSpring software. Students will need to create an AwardSpring log-in in order to apply. There are several program-specific scholarships as well as dozens of general scholarships open to all current and incoming students. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,500. Any student who plans on attending classes at LSC in the fall of 2019 is eligible to apply.

In addition to the traditional scholarships for current and incoming students, Lake Superior College Foundation is once again offering funding for scholarships specifically for graduating high school students in the greater Twin Ports area who plan to attend Lake Superior College in the fall. Two $2,000 scholarships will be offered at each of the selected nearby high schools: Duluth Denfeld, Duluth East, Harbor City, Duluth Marshall, Hermantown, Lakeview Christian Academy, Proctor, Esko, Cloquet, Superior and Two Harbors. These high school specific scholarships will be split into two $1,000 awards to be applied in the Fall of 2019 and again in the Fall of 2020, and can be adjusted for programs that can be completed in less than a year. High school seniors do not need to be accepted at Lake Superior College yet in order to be eligible to apply, however the scholarships can only be applied to Lake Superior College.

LSC Foundation will also once again be offering several St. Louis County Mineral Royalties Scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. This funding is made possible thanks to the generous support and approval of the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners.

“Thanks to the generosity of our community, the LSC Foundation is grateful to once again be increasing the amount of scholarships offered to LSC students this year. We are fortunate to have many generous donors, as well as community and industry partners, who are willing to invest in students at Lake Superior College because they realize LSC graduates will be the future workforce in our region,” said Daniel Fanning, Executive Director of LSC Foundation. “Enrollment at LSC has been increasing the past couple of years and is poised for continued growth. With increased enrollment, comes increased requests for support from our students. That is why the LSC Foundation continues to strive to increase both our funding as well as the amount of scholarships offered. We encourage anyone who is considering attending or returning to LSC to apply for scholarships during this application window. It’s a pretty simple, automatic application process. Once students enter their basic information and answer a few essay questions, the system automatically determines which scholarships they may be eligible to receive. The review committee then ranks each completed application based on those essay answers. We want the application process to be as simple as possible so we can help support as many students as possible.”

The LSC Foundation Scholarship Review Committee will review applications the week of March 11. Once the final list of scholarship recipients is approved by the LSC Foundation Board of Directors, scholarship recipients will be notified in late March. The LSC Foundation will celebrate the recipients at an informal Scholarship Reception at 2 pm on April 3, in the LSC Commons.
