LSC Athletics Names Anthony and Caitlyn Wood Men’s and Women’s Head Soccer Coaches

Anthony and Caitlyn Wood have been named the new men’s and women’s head soccer coaches for the upcoming LSC IceHawks season. The husband and wife duo take over for former head coach Jeff Lightfoot, who retired after leading both the men’s and women’s teams into the post season last year.

Anthony Wood will coach the men’s IceHawks soccer team. He has coached high school soccer for eight years and is in his sixth year coaching the Proctor boy’s high school team. In addition to Proctor High School, he coaches a U14 Gitchi Gummi soccer team and runs summer camps for Proctor  Hermantown Community Education and also coaches camps with Dave Robinson (CSS Assistant Coach) for Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association (AYSA.) Wood is also the Director of Operations at the St. Luke’s Sports & Event Center. He earned his master of arts degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine and a master of science degree in recreation and sport science from Ohio University. Wood is from Cloquet, Minnesota where he played soccer for current high school coach, Archie Clark.

Caitlyn Wood will coach the women’s IceHawks soccer team. She has been coaching for five years, including the Proctor High School Girls JV soccer team, AYSA, U19 Proctor boys team, and AYSA U16 Proctor boys team. Originally from Jackson, Tennessee, she is currently an early childhood educator in Proctor where she’s been teaching for the past four years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Graceland  University in Lamoni, Iowa.

Tony Makela has been hired as the assistant men’s soccer coach and Kevin Danielson has been hired as the assistant women’s coach. Lake Superior College belongs to the Region XIII of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Practice for both the men’s and women’s teams begin August 1.
