Lake Superior College to Take Part in "Give Kids a Smile"

DULUTH, Minn. (January 31, 2024) – Once again, the Lake Superior College Dental Hygiene Clinic will provide free dental service on Friday, February 2 as part of the “Give Kids A Smile” Campaign.

Faculty, students and staff will work with volunteer dentists, advanced dental therapists, hygienists and assistants to provide full service dental care for the children in the Duluth/Superior and surrounding areas.

“A total of 58 volunteers will provide services that include exams, cleanings, oral hygiene instruction, fluoride varnishes, x-rays, sealants, simple extractions, and fillings,” said Debbie Oraskovich, LSC Dental Hygiene Clinic manager. “We have participated each year, with the exceptions of 2021 and 2022 due to COVID. This is our 20th year of participation. I'm guessing we’ve seen about 50 kids per year.”

The Dental Hygiene Clinic is located at Lake Superior College, 2101 Trinity Road, in Duluth. Openings are available for any child under 18 years old who needs dental care. Those interested in scheduling an appointment between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, February 2 may call (218) 733-5939. Please note that walk-in care is not available.

Patients must be 18 years or younger and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Information on specific services will be outlined when an appointment is scheduled.

The “Give Kids a Smile” program is a statewide outreach effort coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association whose members are committed to providing all children with dental care and improving access to care throughout Minnesota. Minnesota dentists have provided free care to 84,000 children and donated services valued at more than $26 million since 2003.

The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans.
