Lake Superior College Students Advance to National Contests
Talented Students Shine in Recent Business Professionals of America and SkillsUSA State Contests.

Duluth, Minn. (April 3, 2023) – Six Lake Superior College students will advance to national contests in Atlanta and Anaheim, Calf., after placing high in spring contests held in Minnesota recently.

“I’m very proud of Lincoln Suedbeck, Jasmine Malone, Caleb Bertrang and Julian Moe for their first and second place finishes in the Business Professionals of America’s Minnesota chapter conference,” said Lake Superior College accounting instructor Lori Yecoshenko. “These competitive events cover IT, HR, accounting, legal, and administrative topics which challenge students while preparing them for the realities of the business world.”

Suedbeck, Malone, Bertrang, and Moe head to the national leadership conference on April 26 – 30 in California where they will compete with other college students for additional accolades.

Meanwhile, students Nicole Ehresman won gold for her welding sculpture and Owen Rostis for his job demonstration at the Minnesota State Conference for SkillsUSA held last weekend. “Nichole and Owen soak up everything taught in the campus welding and CNC Toolmaking workshops,” said integrated manufacturing instructor Nathan Zobel. “I know they will both do very well in Atlanta representing Lake Superior College.” The Gene Haas Foundation in Oxnard, Calf. covered the costs for the students competing in the SkillsUSA contents.

“Lake Superior College has a rich tradition of students competing in state and national contests in a variety of disciplines,” said college president, Dr. Patricia Rogers. “When I think of the health and strength of tomorrow’s leaders in our state and country, I think of these six students and many other Lake Superior College students preparing for their future careers.”
