Lake Superior College’s Early Bird Events Help Students Prepare for Spring Semester

New and returning students at Lake Superior College will have a few opportunities to get a head start on preparing for spring semester at the upcoming Early Bird events. Traditionally, this has been a one-day event, typically on the Saturday before the semester begins, but this year a few dates and times are being offered to make it easier for students (and parents/other guests) to visit campus (online and/or safely in person) while maintaining smaller crowds, as well as following social distancing and other health and safety practices in compliance with LSC’s COVID-19 Preparedness Plan.

Spring semester begins at Lake Superior College on Monday, January 11. Early Bird events will be held on the following days:

  • Wednesday, January 6, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., virtual option
  • Thursday, January 7, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., LSC’s main campus
  • Saturday, January 9, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., LSC’s main campus

At these events, students can take care of several tasks while on campus including purchasing books and supplies at the LSC Store, finding their classrooms and other areas before the semester begins, making a tuition payment, getting their student IDs, meeting with an advisor to add or drop a class, and in some cases even meeting their instructors and classmates before their courses begin. This often helps alleviate the stress of trying to do all of this on the first day of class.

“We encourage students and parents to visit us during Early Bird if they have any questions, concerns or just want to know where stuff is before that first day of spring semester," said LSC Registrar Melissa Leno. "We will have staff and volunteers safely spread out throughout campus to help assist students with whatever they need to do before school starts. The LSC Store and Business Office will be open as well. It’s often helpful to know where your classrooms and other key areas are before the semester begins so you can attend your first day and not have to worry about that sort of thing.”

This year, Lake Superior College is also offering a completely online, virtual Early Bird option on Wednesday, January 6, 2:00 p.m. This is a good opportunity for students with questions or concerns to get more information and get connected to staff who are happy to assist them.

With spring semester beginning on Monday, January 11, new and returning students have until Friday, January 15 to add classes. There are still some openings in career/technical classes as well as in general study/liberal arts courses for transfer. Courses will continue to be offered on campus, online and through hybrid models, depending on the program. Learn more about delivery methods.

For new students, there is still time to apply and register for spring semester. Lake Superior College has waived the usual application fee so prospective students can apply for free at www.lsc.edu/apply. LSC also continues to offer both on-campus (safely, with COVID-19 restrictions in place) and virtual tours. For more info and to schedule a campus tour: lsc.edu/visit.
