Orientation includes the following tasks:

Important** Start with tasks marked with asterisks (**). They may take extra time. You must complete these tasks by the due date to be guaranteed a seat in the MLT program. Once you are admitted, visit your D2L Brightspace website MLT Student Center link for detailed orientation due dates, guidance, forms, information and requirements.   Always monitor and use ONLY your LSC email. We will not contact you by personal email.**After admission, you will receive an email with instructions to set up a Student Passport account (no cost). You must do this within a short period of time or the invitation expires. Follow the directions carefully. You will use this account to submit important health information. This is a secure site. Do not upload immunization information to D2L.

**Background checks**

Complete the  Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Study and the National Criminal Background check as soon as you are admitted. All details are on the orientation website. This is critical. If anything comes up on the background checks you must address it immediately. You cannot start the program until these are complete and your background checks are clear. DHS will cost a total of about $30. The national criminal background check cost will start at around $60 but increase per name and per state.

D2L Brightspace MLT Student Center: Verification of Policy and Release of Information form (upload to D2L drop box and return original to director). MLT Policy manual signature form (upload signed form and return original to director) and quiz, Safety quiz, and Health Declaration form (upload signed form and return original to director).

The Medical Laboratory Technician program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Student Selection

The MLT program enrolls 15 students each fall. Students who become LSC students and complete all MLT pre-program requirements (including required GPA) will be admitted to the MLT program as long as there are available seats in the program. In the event there are more students than seats available, priority will be given to students who completed their pre-program requirements first. Students are ranked by when pre-program requirements are completed and when they completed their application to LSC / declared MLT as their program. In the event there are multiple students who completed pre-program requirements in the same term AND completed their LSC application on the same date, GPA in pre-program courses will be used as a tie-breaker.
