Lake Superior College to Promote Winter Safety to Students
Free winter survival kits to be distributed at the Fair on Tuesday.

Lake Superior College (LSC) will hold a Winter Weather Safety Fair on Tuesday, November 18 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for its students in the main concourse of its main campus.

The event will bring together local emergency response and preparedness teams to educate students on winter safety, emergency preparedness, and survival skills essential for navigating harsh winter conditions. Free winter survival kits will be distributed to LSC students throughout the event.

The fair will feature representatives from multiple agencies including the Duluth Police Department (DPD), Duluth Fire Department (DFD), Minnesota State Patrol, St. Louis County, Minnesota Department of Transportation (DOT) and more. These professionals will provide education, safety tips, and answer questions about winter preparedness.

"Winter weather can present serious challenges for our students, especially those who may be new to the region or living on their own for the first time," said Justin Stangeland, Lake Superior College’s Public Safety Coordinator. "This fair gives students direct access to the experts who respond to winter emergencies every day, along with practical tools and knowledge they can use to stay safe throughout the season."

With LSC students commuting to campus from across the Twin Ports region, winter preparedness is a critical safety issue. The winter survival kits being distributed will contain essential items students can keep in their vehicles or homes for unexpected winter emergencies.
