Lake Superior College Earns Re-Accreditation for College in the Schools Program
LSC recognized for excellence in concurrent enrollment programming, maintaining high standards for dual credit opportunities.

Lake Superior College has been granted re-accreditation by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) for its College in the Schools program, it was announced recently.

The College in the Schools program allows high school students to earn college credit while still in high school, providing college-level courses taught by qualified high school instructors under the supervision of LSC faculty. This re-accreditation demonstrates LSC's continued commitment to delivering high-quality, college-level opportunities that support students' successful transition to postsecondary education. LSC was among 22 institutions nationwide to earn re-accreditation during the 2024-2025 cycle. The college's accreditation is valid through the 2031-2032 academic year.

"Achieving this re-accreditation reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality, college-level opportunities for high school students," said Stephanie Wainionpaa, Director of College in the Schools at Lake Superior College. "This recognition validates our efforts to maintain the highest standards in concurrent enrollment programming."

To earn NACEP accreditation, concurrent enrollment programs must conduct a comprehensive self-study, document how their programs adhere to NACEP's 16 standards, and undergo a peer-review process conducted by representatives from other NACEP-accredited programs and members of the NACEP Accreditation Commission.

The peer review team commended Lake Superior College's program for strong faculty mentorship, high-quality professional development opportunities, and effective communication with high school partners. The review team particularly praised the Wainionpaa for understanding the role and direction of concurrent enrollment endeavors and strengthening partnerships between LSC and K-12 schools.

The College in the Schools program expands access to higher education by allowing students to begin their college journey while in high school, providing them with a head start on their postsecondary education and reducing the time and cost of earning a college degree.
