Hematology Basic hematology theory and laboratory skills are covered in this course with the focus placed on normal blood cells (white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets), their function and recognition of their microscopic characteristics. Basic hematology procedures are practiced during the laboratory sessions; procedures that are performed in the clinical laboratory to assess the function and health of these blood cells. Medical Laboratory Assistant Basics

Special Hematology Medical Laboratory Technician students will learn how to identify both benign and malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system including the anemias and leukemias. Diseases and corresponding screening and confirmatory test procedures and the use of automated cell counters in the measurement of hematological parameters are a primary focus of this course.
