Credit by Exam
Credit by Exam is an opportunity to obtain credit for knowledge and experience that is parallel to the content of a particular course through an exam given by an LSC faculty member.
The student will meet with the Director of Advising or his/her designee to determine readiness for credit by exam. Students are limited to one attempt to earn credit by exam, per course. The charge for Prior Learning Assessment is $125.00 per credit. This must be paid prior to the assessment, and is non-refundable.
Prior Learning Assessment
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) provides opportunity to obtain credit for college-level knowledge gained through prior work, education, and life experiences through documentation and demonstration of prior learning. Lake Superior College has adopted the National Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) standards.
The student will meet with the Director of Advising or his/her designee to determine readiness for prior learning assessment. The Director of Advising or his/her designee will consult with appropriate faculty members for evaluation of prior learning experience and credit award. The charge for Prior Learning Assessment is $125.00 per credit. This must be paid prior to the assessment, and is non-refundable.
Educational Credit for Training Programs
Lake Superior College may accept credit for the following training programs:
Military Training
Credits will be evaluated from the student’s military documents using the “ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Experiences in the Armed Forces” (Minnesota Statute 197.775, Subdivision 2, Higher Education Fairness).

To have your military credit evaluated at Lake Superior College, you will need to request a copy of your transcript.
Students currently or formerly in Army, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard can request a Joint Services Transcript – formerly known as the SMART transcript. A transcript request link is also provided through Minnesota State’s Military Credit Transfer for Veterans and Service Members. You can also order an LSC transcript.
Students currently or formerly in the Air Force must request an official copy of their Air Force transcript through the Community College of the Air Force.
Business Training
Credits will be evaluated using the ACE College Credit recommendations
Association of Administrative Professionals
Credit will be evaluated for successful completion of the CAP (Certified Administrative Professional) examination.
Lake Superior College may accept credit from programs with state and/or national certification(s) agreements, approved by the Lake Superior College program faculty and the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs, in accordance with the transfer process.
