As we begin the month of February, I want to acknowledge the difficult period our state has been navigating. Many in our community are carrying worry, frustration, or fatigue as Minnesota continues to face challenges that affect our sense of safety and stability. In moments like these, our college’s commitment to respect, civility, and care for one another becomes even more essential. These values are not just aspirational—they are the foundation that allows us to move through uncertainty together.

Even in challenging times, February brings important opportunities for us as an institution. Over the coming weeks, I will be meeting with state and federal legislators to advocate for the needs of our students, our employees, and our college. These conversations allow us to highlight the transformative work happening on our campus, the essential role we play in our region, and the investments required to ensure that every learner has access to high‑quality, affordable education.

February is also a month filled with meaningful activity across our campus. From the campus presentations on Restorative Practices and Financial Literacy to Pizza, Puzzles, & Professionalism and Seeking Adventure with Emily Ford to The Science of Alfred Hitchcock, these gatherings remind us of the strength and creativity of our community. They offer moments to learn, connect, and celebrate the work we are doing together. I encourage you to take part in the events that resonate with you and to support the colleagues and students who make them possible.

Despite the heaviness many are feeling, I remain deeply optimistic about the months ahead. Every day, I see resilience, creativity, and compassion across our campus. I see faculty and staff going above and beyond for students. I see students supporting one another and striving toward their goals. I see a community that continues to show up—with integrity, with kindness, and with hope.

Thank you for all you do to make this college a place where people feel seen, supported, and inspired. Together, we will continue to navigate the challenges before us and build a stronger, more connected future.
