Dr. Kingston brings 32 years of education experience, spanning middle and high school, technical college, comprehensive community and technical college, and university settings. She brings with her a passion for innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a commitment to shared governance.
Prior to her appointment, Dr. Kingston served as the vice president for academic and student affairs at Lake Superior College, a position she has held from 2020-25. In this role, she provided executive leadership and management of the academic and student affairs divisions. Additionally, she oversaw customized training and continuing education, and accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission.
Previously, she served Winona State University (WSU) between 2017-2020 as the assistant vice president for distance learning and summer session, as well as adjunct faculty in the College of Education. While at WSU, she pioneered the development of, and funding for, a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) program in collaboration with the nursing department and Mayo Clinic. She also provided leadership in the design, development, and delivery of distance-based programs, management and promotion of the summer session program, and oversight of all non-credit customized training and continuing education.
Between 2010-2017, she served Saint Paul College in multiple roles including as interim vice president of academic affairs, dean of STEM, and dean of STEM and liberal arts. Her many accomplishments included facilitating the transition of the health and science programs into the new Health Science Alliance Center, working with university partners to develop articulation agreements for the science technician, chemical and biological sciences, computer science, cybersecurity, and enterprise computing programs, and implemented academic initiatives such as learning communities and weekend college expansion.
Dr. Kingston has also served two additional Minnesota State colleges. She was the dean of academic affairs at Minnesota State College Southeast from 2007-2010 and was the distance learning coordinator, as well as a mathematics and computer science instructor, at Alexandria Technical and Community College between 2000-2007.
