Governor Tim Walz recently activated about 400 members of the Minnesota National Guard to train as temporary nursing assistants and help support long-term care facilities facing severe staffing shortages.
Before the troops are deployed into the healthcare facilities, they are being trained at Minnesota State community and technical colleges including LSC in Duluth. They are receiving the 75-hours of required training to become certified nursing assistants and temporary nursing aides.
The training started last weekend, runs every day, and will be completed early next week. Instructors and campus leaders worked over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to help prepare for and begin this unique and intensive training. We are grateful for the impressive collaboration and efforts of all involved.
