Letter Sent to Welding Students

Dear Lake Superior College Welding Students:

You may be aware of recent news reports regarding allegations of safety issues associated with our welding program at the Downtown Center. I want to assure you that Lake Superior College takes the health and safety of our employees and students very seriously. We have always met and exceeded the safety requirements under federal, state, and local laws, as well as OSHA regulations in all of our programs at every LSC location (main campus, Downtown Center, ERTC, and the Center for Advanced Aviation).

The Downtown Center’s welding and manufacturing workshops maintain the same high level of health and safety standards. In addition, LSC stays current with standards as they evolve to ensure ongoing compliance and that systems function properly at all times, including the overall building air and ventilation systems.

Faculty and staff monitor the filtration systems for each piece of equipment regularly, and LSC contracts with outside professional services in an expedient manner for any repairs or replacements that are needed.

We remain committed to providing a safe working and learning environment and will continue to follow our established equipment maintenance and safety processes.
