Lake Superior College and Local Dentists to Provide Free Dental Care to Children on “Give Kids a Smile” Day Friday, February 2

Lake Superior College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic is teaming up with dental professionals in the surrounding community, including eight volunteer dentists, to provide free dental care for children on “Give Kids a Smile Day”, February 2.

“Healthy teeth are vital to overall health and even a key to success in school,” said Cindy Upton, LSC dental clinic coordinator. “This is a special effort to reach children in need of dental care, especially those who otherwise may not be able to access or afford dental care. We encourage parents to call for an appointment.”

The Dental Hygiene Clinic is located at Lake Superior College, 2101 Trinity Road, in Duluth. Openings are available for any child under 18 years old who needs dental care. Those interested in scheduling an appointment between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, February 2 may call the school at (218) 733-5939. Please note that walk-in care will not be available.

Patients should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Information on specific services will be outlined when an appointment is scheduled.

The “Give Kids a Smile” program is a statewide outreach effort coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association whose members are committed to providing all children with dental care and improving access to care throughout Minnesota. Now in its 16th year, “Give Kids a Smile” has provided free dental care to more than 60,000 children. About 200 clinics across the state will open their doors for this program.

The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing 83 percent of practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans.
