“Give Kids a Smile” Day Coming on Feb. 3

Concerned about the growing number of children who are unable to access dental care, Lake Superior College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic is teaming up with dental professionals, including six volunteer dentists, to provide free care for children whose families cannot afford it during "Give Kids a Smile" Day.

The Dental Hygiene Clinic is located at Lake Superior College, 2101 Trinity Road, in Duluth.

Openings are available for any child under 18 years old who needs dental care. Those interested in scheduling an appointment between 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Friday, February 3 may call the school at (218) 733-5939 or email Cindy at [email protected]

Please note that walk-in care is not available.

The “Give Kids a Smile” program is a statewide outreach effort coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association whose members are committed to providing all children with dental care and improving access to care throughout Minnesota. Now in its 15th year, “Give Kids a Smile” has provided free dental care to more than 45,000 children. About 200 clinics across the state will open their doors for this program.

“This is a special way to reach children in need of dental care. Healthy teeth are vital to overall health and even a key to success in school, “said Cindy Upton, LSC dental clinic coordinator. “We encourage parents to call for an appointment.”

Patients seeking appointments should be under the age of 18 and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Information on specific services will be outlined when an appointment is scheduled.

The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing 83 percent of practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans.
