Collections Specialist I

This position ensures that donor screening and whole blood collection are done in a manner that is consistent with current clinical practices, compliant with all regulatory requirements and results in safe products for patients and exceptional experiences for donors. To maintain a professional appearance and attitude while ensuring excellent customer service for blood donors and blood drive sponsors.

Schedule: Flexible - Hours vary from 6am - 9pm Monday - Friday with rotating weekends as well as some overnight travel.
Status: Full Time, 1.0 FTE hourly


Assesses and documents vitals of donor; qualifies donor responses to determine eligibility of donor.
Performs blood collections in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Follows safety procedures.
Provides customer service and pre and post donation care as needed.
Assists with the set-up of blood drive, including the safe loading/unloading of mobile units.
Performs cleaning tasks, including equipment cleaning.
Ensures accuracy, acceptability, and completeness of documentation to prevent loss of units.
Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.


High School Diploma or GED
Specialized training such as: phlebotomy, nursing assistant, medial assistant, EMT or one year of college coursework

Valid driver’s license required
Local travel is required; must have reliable transportation to and from work assignments. Mileage reimbursed for use of personal vehicle in mobile operations.

Phlebotomy certificate or medical assistant is preferred.
One year of customer service experience is preferred.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Accurate oral and written communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Willingness to follow direction from management
Dexterity in handling equipment with latex gloves
Ability to work well with others, under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules and SOPs
