Lake Superior College Foundation to Award over $100,000 in Student Scholarships
Students who will be attending Lake Superior College Spring Semester 2022 are encouraged to apply, application window now open through December 1.

(Duluth, Minn.) – The Lake Superior College Foundation is awarding over $100,000 in scholarships for students who will be attending Lake Superior College in Spring Semester 2022. The LSC Foundation scholarship application window is now open and will remain open through Wednesday, December 1. Current and prospective LSC students are encouraged to apply by visiting www.lsc.edu/foundation. The entire application process is online and requires applicants to set up an account in the AwardSpring system. Foundation scholarships are available to current (returning) and incoming students in good academic standing, and will be awarded to students enrolled at LSC in Spring Semester. Awards are typically applied to student accounts after the final day to add/drop classes.

While the majority of scholarships through the LSC Foundation are typically offered in the spring for the fall, there are some program-specific scholarships being offered now (Fall Semester 2021) for Spring Semester 2022. Any eligible student who plans on attending LSC in the spring of 2022 is eligible to apply, although some scholarships have specific requirements based on conditions established by the funders. More scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2022, for Fall Semester 2022, which will include even more programs.

For this current award cycle, the following scholarships are now being offered:

  • Workforce Development Scholarships (multiple awards, for eligible students in the following programs: manufacturing, agriculture, transportation i.e. auto and aviation, early childhood education, healthcare, and information/computer technology; eligible students must be enrolled in 9 credits or more and be a Minnesota resident)
  • Nicholas James Person RN Nursing Scholarship (new, for nursing students)
  • St. Louis County Mineral Royalties Scholarships (multiple awards, high demand career fields)
  • Laura Hamre Nursing Careers Scholarship (new, for nursing students and related programs)

“By offering these additional scholarships, our hope is that even more students have access to the quality and affordable programs offered at LSC and then go on to help meet growing workforce needs in our region,” said Daniel Fanning, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Lake Superior College. “We hope this further encourages even more students to enroll in and/or remain in school. Lake Superior College already offers the second lowest tuition in the State of Minnesota, yet we know many students still struggle to find the financial resources for college. We are working to try to help remove those financial barriers so even more students can take advantage of the quality programs at LSC. Thanks to the generosity of our community and industry partners, we are excited to offer these scholarship opportunities. We are grateful for the strong support from our expanding donor base which is willing to invest in our students because they realize LSC graduates are the future workforce and future leaders of our region. The application process is intentionally simple and straightforward, as we encourage anyone who is planning on, or at least even considering, attending LSC in the spring to apply. Please just let us know if you have any questions or need any assistance.”

The LSC Foundation Scholarship Review Committee, largely made up of volunteer members of the LSC Board of Directors, will review applications after the application window closes. Scholarship recipients will be notified in mid to late December, primarily through the AwardSpring dashboard as well as through email. In an additional step to remove financial barriers, Lake Superior College has also permanently waived the application fee for new students interested in attending LSC. Prospective students are encouraged to apply to LSC, for free, at www.lsc.edu/apply. Spring semester begins January 10, so there’s still time to apply and register for Spring Semester 2022.
