Ordean Grants
What is an Ordean Grant?
The Ordean grant is designed for students in specified programs leading to local employment in certain fields and is funded by the Ordean Foundation. There are four separate Ordean grants available. They are: Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy, Medical Programs (not including CNA and Phlebotomy), and Women in Construction. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements.
Who is eligible for an Ordean Grant?
You must be enrolled in an eligible program, meet specific income guidelines, and have lived in Duluth for one year out of the last three years for reasons other than education.
How do I apply for an Ordean Grant?
Ordean applications become available on the LSC financial aid website each July 1 for the following academic year. Completed applications are returned to the LSC Student Services Center. As funds are limited, you should complete the application as soon as it is possible to do so.
How much can I receive through the Ordean Grant?
Qualified students can receive up to $1000 per term or the cost of their tuition, fees and books, which ever is less.
Do I have to apply for the Ordean Grant every term?
No. Students must apply each academic year which would include both fall term and spring term.
Can I receive both the Ordean Grant and other agency funding?
Students who receive job-training funds or funds from the division of rehabilitation services that are specifically designated to pay for tuition and fees cannot receive Ordean Grant funds. However, if these agency funds do not pay for the entire cost of tuition, fees and books, Ordean funds can cover the remaining balance.
How do I know if I qualify for the Ordean Grant?
You will receive written notification from us regarding whether you have been given the Ordean Grant. This notification will also include the maximum amount of the grant each term.
I am on the waiting list for a program that qualifies for the Ordean Grant. Can I still receive Ordean Grant funding?
You cannot receive the Ordean Grant unless you are taking courses required by the eligible program. Eligible courses include the pre-technical courses required by the program.
