Lake Superior College physical therapist assistant students and physical therapist students from The College of St. Scholastica provide the services. Faculty members, who are licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, supervise all treatments. Problems treated with physical therapy include but are not limited to: back and neck pain, arthritis, injuries to the joints, muscle soreness or weakness, loss of flexibility, balance problems, walking problems, headaches, slow-healing wounds, and poor posture. In addition, the clinic can provide tips on injury prevention and work-station set-up. The clinic can also assist in determining lifting restrictions and teach proper lifting techniques. A doctor's order is not required. The clinic opened in August 1999. During 2005-2006 academic year, the clinic provided physical therapy to more than 100 Duluth-Superior area residents. The community services provided last year have an estimated value of over $150,000. The clinic is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is a $10 fee per treatment session assessed on a sliding fee scale.
