I. Greetings from Lake Superior College's PresidentGreetings and welcome to Lake Superior College. I know that you will find us to be a dynamic, comprehensive college serving the needs of a variety of students, one which emphasizes student learning and student service. We are a creative learning community dedicated to serving your educational needs. LSC offers extensive pre-baccalaureate majors for students interested in transferring to senior educational institutions as well as more than 80 certificate, diploma, and degree programs in career/technical fields. Our Workforce Development division collaborates extensively with area businesses and industry to design specialized educational opportunities for those interested in meeting ever-changing training needs. Lake Superior College has additionally become a state and regional leader in the offering of education unbound by space or time. Since LSC offers more than 150 courses through online (Internet) instruction, you may elect to take one course or the greater share of courses in meeting requirements for various educational certificates, diplomas, or degrees. You will find the faculty and staff at Lake Superior College to be friendly, sincere, and helpful. We are student-centered, creative, dedicated, and we take pride in helping students succeed. You have only to call, write, or connect with us to begin to experience the spirit of Lake Superior College. Dr. Kathleen Nelson Purpose of the Student HandbookThis handbook contains important information to help you succeed at Lake Superior College. Students are responsible for knowing the content of the handbook, including the procedures and policies it contains. The policies and procedures are intended to be uniformly applied and form a common core. The policies, rules and procedures were formulated based on the most recent rules, regulations, laws, information and dates available. They are subject to revision by state and federal agencies that are beyond the control and jurisdiction of the college. Therefore, specific narrative instructions listed in the handbook may need to be updated. Changes in rules and regulations or policies made by higher levels of government agencies may supersede the information printed in this handbook. The college will do its best to reconcile any conflict with higher government rules and to provide policy updates. Current policies are available on the LSC web site at www.lsc.edu/policy/. When students graduate from Lake Superior College, they are prepared for employment, advancement in their fields of study, or transfer to baccalaureate degree-granting institutions. HistoryLake Superior College (LSC) is the result of the merger of Duluth Community College and Duluth Technical College on July 1, 1995. The registration for Fall 2007 consisted of over 4,500 students enrolled in transfer programs, technical programs, continuing education, apprenticeship training, and custom training courses.
