Financial Aid

Maximum Time Frame for Program Completion

(This page provides you with an explanation of the policy and a direct link to the complete policy)

Explanation:

All students are expected to complete their program within an acceptable timeframe.  Students may attempt 50% more credits than are required for them to complete their program (150% limit ).  All credits* that the student has attempted at Lake Superior College count toward the 150% limit regardless as to whether they have changed programs.  This includes completed, transfer and failed credits along with credits from which they have withdrawn.

Each student's record is evaluated for 150% timeframe completion when satisfactory academic progress is determined at the end of each semester. If through this process it is determined that a student cannot complete his/her program within the 150% timeframe, the student will lose financial aid eligibility at the time that this is first determined.

If a student has more than one active program, the student will lose financial aid eligibility when 150% of the credit length of the program with the highest number of credits has been reached.  The student will need to petition for financial aid to continue.

Academic planning is essential for students who have more than one active program.  If a student is on a waiting list for a technical program and decides to pursue a second program, the student is encouraged to strictly follow the program planner for the second program.  Although the student may reach the 150% point of their first ranked program before completing the program, demonstrating that the student is actively pursuing the second program will be viewed favorably in the petition process.

*There are some exemptions to the 150% rule.  Please view the policy in its entirety for further explanation.
