Financial Aid

Consortium Agreement - Description and Forms

A consortium agreement is requested when a student is taking courses that are required for their major program at two colleges during the same term.  One college is considered the "Home" institution while the other serves as the "Host" institution.

The "Home" institution is the college where the student is pursuing a degree, certificate or diploma.  The "Home" institution is the college that will award financial aid for the term.

The "Host" institution is the second college where the student is enrolled.  Normally the student is not pursuing a degree, certificate or diploma at this college.  With guidance from the student's advisor, the student has decided to register to take some of the courses required for the student's major at this second college.

When Lake Superior College is the "Home" institution:

  • Print the Financial Aid Consortium Agreement
  • Complete the student section of the form
  • Take the form to the financial aid office at the "Host" institution for their completion
  • Attach a copy of your official registration for the term from the "Host" institution
  • Return the completed consortium agreement to the Financial Aid Director at Lake Superior College at the address listed at the bottom of the form.

NOTE: The completed Financial Aid Consortium Agreement must be returned to the Financial Aid Director prior to the end of the drop-add period for the term.

What Happens Next!

If the credits for which you are registered at the "Host" institution pertain to your Lake Superior College program, the credits will be added as consortium credits to your registered credits at LSC for the term.  Your financial aid at LSC will be based on the combined number of credits for which you are enrolled at both institutions.  At the end of the term, you must provide Pat Hendry, LSC financial aid office, with a grade transcript from the "Host" institution as these courses are considered for satisfactory academic progress. Your financial aid for the following term will be placed on hold until the transcript is received.

When you receive your financial aid from Lake Superior College, you must pay the "Host" institution for the credits for which you are enrolled.  If the "Host" institution requires that you pay for your tuition prior to the beginning of the term, you will want to discuss whether other arrangements can be made until your financial aid is received.

When Lake Superior College is the "Host" institution

  • Contact the "Home" institution for a copy of their financial aid consortium agreement.

  • Follow the college's instructions regarding the completion and return of the form.

As long as the Lake Superior College Financial Aid Office has processed your home institution's consortium agreement prior to LSC's "drop for non-payment date", you will not be dropped from your course(s). However, as you will be receiving your financial aid from your "Home" institution, you must pay your charges at Lake Superior College as soon as your financial aid has been received from the "Home" institution. Purchasing books for your LSC courses is your responsibility.  They may not be charged against financial aid received at your home institution.
