What is First Year Experience?

The First Year Experience Program at Lake Superior College includes a one-credit course called "Intro to College." This course promotes academic, campus and personal success at LSC. The class creates opportunities for students to develop academic skills, knowledge of campus resources, and awareness of the values and perspectives of others.

Seriously?!!!

Do I have to take this class?

This course will provide the tools necessary to transition into college life. The program is designed to begin the day classes start and help you through your first semester. It will be taught by an experienced faculty member who cares about your success.

Exemptions: The following students may still opt to take this course, but are exempt from the mandatory requirements:
  • Students who are not seeking a degree or diploma
  • Students who are in a diploma program of fewer than 37 credits
  • Students in good academic standing who have earned 12 college credits
(not CITS = College in the Schools) including an FYE course
  • Students in good academic standing who have earned 24 college credits
    (not CITS
    = College in the Schools)

Welcome Parents & Families!

Welcome parents and family of new students to Lake Superior College! We hope by providing this information, we can help you better understand what your student may encounter as they begin their college experience. The First Year Experience program is a comprehensively designed program for new entering Freshman. The program includes the college transition course FYE 1000, Welcome Week, Parent Day, and Student Success Day. The program is designed to begin the Saturday before classes start and follow students through their entire first semester to help with any struggles they may have.
