Find a Course

This is probably the most commonly used area.  This is where you register, drop and withdraw from courses.  Note on the right side you can see what courses are in your shopping cart and also the videos to see how to add and drop courses.

There are many features in here like advanced search and quick add once you become more of an expert user.  For the purposes here we will just go over the basics.

Step 1: Ensure you are looking at the correct semester

Step 2: Choose a subject area "English, Math"

Step 3: Basic users can ignore the "Delivery" and "Keyword" options.

Step 4: Decide if you want to look just for courses with open seats or see courses that are offered that semester but full or possibly "cancelled" or "reserved".  This can be useful right before the semester starts because you can add a course if someone else drops from a full course through the 5th day of the semester.

Step 5: This is a key step!  After searching click on the title of the course you are interested in to see the course descrption. Read this in detail:
- Make sure you check pre-requistes so you don't get in over your head and pay for a course you later withdraw from or fail.
- Make sure you check if it is an online section or not.
- Make sure you check the dates to see if it is accelerated or not.
- Make sure you check the room number to see if it is off campus or not.  LSC holds classes at high schools, in Grand Marais, MN etc.  You don't want to drive 5 hours round trip to Grand Marais just for a psychology class, do you?
- Be aware that you have to be available for all the times listed in the course description.  Frequently you will see 2 lines noting different days/times in different rooms.  This is likely a lab & lecture section of a course or part in class & part online.

Step 6: Click "Add to cart".  THIS DOES NOT REGISTER YOU FOR THE COURSE.  It just puts this section in a holding tank so you can repeat the above steps for each course you want to add.

Step 7: Manage your Shopping Cart.  When you are ready to register check the box next to the courses you want and click "Register for Checked Courses" at the bottom OR "Remove Checked Courses" if you want to take it out of your shopping cart.

Step 8: If everything looks correct, click "Register for Selected Courses" and enter your 6 digit PIN you used to login to e-Services.

Drop or Withdraw

Whether you are Dropping or Withdrawing depends on the date you do it. For most classes, you are Dropping (no financial responsibility and not on your record - like an erase) if it is before the 5th business day of the semester. Withdrawing ususally starts on the 6th day. You should see your advisor before withdrawing to find out how it will affect you - it could put you on probation!

Step 1: Click "View/Modify" Class Schedule.
Step 2: Ensure you are in the correct semester.
Step 3: Click on the Course ID numbers in front of the course title.
Step 4: Select "Drop/Withdraw" from the 1st drop down menu.  Leave "Grade Method" and "Variable Credits" blank.
Step 5: Click "Process" and enter your 6 digit PIN number you used to login to e-Services and click "Process Request"

Can't Register? Some common answers....

Check Registration Window...
The date you are allowed to start registering at LSC (and most colleges) goes in "waves" of students based on how many earned credits you have.  Just because your friend could register starting on a certain day, doesn't neccesarily mean you can!  You can see when you can start with using this option.

Registration Access Code...
This number is like an electronic "key" you need to enter to "unlock" your record so you can register.  You get this from your advisor.  Not all students need one.  Typicially you will need an Access Code if you are:
- 1st Semester Associate in Arts (i.e. AA)
- on Probation
- in Reading I or Writing I (READ 0455 / ENGL 0450)
- in the Student Support Services Program
- PSEO high school student

Check Registration Holds...
Various offices can "lock up" your account.  Typical holds are from the Payment Office (i.e. you owe money), Admissions Office etc.  You have to go to that office directly to get the hold removed.
