LSC Semester Long Opportunities

Semester in Mexico

LSC Spring Break Opportunity

You are invited and encouraged to participate in LSC's spring semester travel program to Oaxaca, Mexico!

The program includes enrolling in semester-long courses at Lake Superior College and includes a 9-day trip (Spring Break, March 5-13) to beautiful Oaxaca, Mexico. While in Oaxaca participants will have the opportunity to visit the pyramid sites of Monte Albán and Mitla, tour local artisan villages, and get to know the local cultures and people. All tours will be

led by a local guide

in English.  There is also a service-learning component to the trip.

The cost of the program is estimated at $1,650.00 for the nine days of travel.  The price includes airfare, hotel, all breakfasts, three lunches, tour guide, ground transportation in Mexico, and all admissions to the anthropological sites.  This price is based on four person/room occupancy and does NOT include the tuition for the courses.  Financial aid may be able to help with the costs of the trip.
 
Participants will enroll in:

• Spanish 1800: Spanish Abroad (3 credits),

and must enroll in at least ONE (1) Spanish language course.  The language courses offered as part of the program include:

• Spanish 1020: Beginning Spanish II (5 credits),
• Spanish 1025: Spanish for Health Professionals II (3 credits);
• Spanish 2020: Intermediate Spanish II (5 credits),or
• Spanish 2050: Spanish Conversation (3 credits).*

*It is NOT required that students have studied Spanish previously to enroll in the Spanish Conversation course. It is HIGHLY recommended that students of all levels of Spanish also enroll in the conversation course since it will focus on vocabulary beneficial for the trip (airport, hotel, restaurant, shopping, etc.). 

If you are interested in this unique learning community, you will need to:
(1)   Contact one of the instructors and complete the application forms by October 23

2)   Pay the $200 non-refundable deposit by October 23
(3)   Register for the classes (Spring semester)
(4)   Make regular payments for the trip
(5)   Attend the Spring semester orientation sessions
(6)   Have proof of health insurance by January 2010
(7)   Have a valid passport.
