Duluth has earned the distinction of being named one of Outside Magazine’s “Top 10 Dream Towns in America.” The hillside city is known for its friendly neighborhood living, a lively arts and music scene, and outdoor recreation, including an extensive trail and park system for biking, walking, hiking and skiing. The confluence of Lake Superior and the St. Louis River offers swimming beaches, boating and fishing. Called an “artsy shipping town” by the New York Times, the city hosts numerous regional cultural and sporting events, including Grandma’s Marathon, the Bayfront Blues Festival, the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, the Homegrown Music Festival, the “Tall Ships” Festival, the AMSOIL National Snocross, the Duluth Air Show, and many more.
Lake Superior College offers college credit for students who run Grandma’s Marathon. The college is sponsors of the Nordic Spirit Cross-Country Ski Race.
